Sunset Theater

The restoration and expansion of the Sunset Community Center reimagines a classic 1950 movie theater to serve as a community gathering space and event venue. Along with the neighboring Sunset on the Avenue development, the revitalized theater will become a major attraction in the heart of Lodi. A new landscaped public plaza and water feature provide outdoor gathering space and a connection to the neighboring building. Restoration of the entry marquee and soaring vertical signage reinforce the structure’s status, encouraging a new generation of audiences to form cherished memories in a venerated local landmark. Inside, audiences will have access to restored original features, an expanded venue with plush-raked seating, acoustically paneled wood interiors, immersive lighting effects, gallery spaces, event bars, an upper balcony, and a rooftop terrace. Expansion of the building provides support spaces to serve a variety of functions, including new green rooms, control and broadcast areas, a full-service commercial kitchen, scenery storage, and event management spaces. State-of-the-art AV and lighting systems expand the capabilities of the space beyond the new performance stage and into the audience chamber for an immersive experience.
